Transforming Mental Wellness: Recovery College YVR Launches to Address Gaps in Mental Health and Substance Use System

TUESDAY, MAY 2, North and West Vancouver, British Columbia, the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam Nations – This afternoon, the Government of British Columbia, Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) of North and West Vancouver and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) are kicking off Mental Health Week (May 1-7) with the launch of Recovery College YVR (RC YVR), a community learning centre offering free courses to address transitional gaps across the mental health and substance use system.

​Sam McLeod is a Project Manager with the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project. Ever since moving from a small town in Saskatchewan to Vancouver over 20 years ago, his contributions to maintain and improve Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) buildings have been extensive. Indigenous doulas improve cultural safety and access to reproductive care

​Indigenous doulas play a crucial role in providing culturally appropriate support to Indigenous women, Two-Spirit, trans and gender diverse people during the perinatal period and beyond. Serving as strategic leads on doula care at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Danette Jubinville and Olivia Louie are two such doulas who are bringing this role back.
