Overdose prevention site opens in Squamish offering low-barrier care to residents

Squamish, B.C. – Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and Squamish Helping Hands, in partnership with the Sea to Sky Community Action Team (CAT), have opened an overdose prevention site (OPS) in Squamish in response to the increasing number of overdoses in this community. The new site is now open to the public at the former Helping Hands shelter on Third Avenue.

Vancouver Coastal Health declares COVID-19 outbreak on one unit at Vancouver General Hospital

Vancouver, B.C. – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on T10C, an inpatient unit in the Jim Pattison Pavilion at Vancouver General Hospital; five patients and two staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

COVID-19 update for Whistler

Vancouver, BC- Based on epidemiological data, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) continues to record a sustained reduction in COVID-19 transmission in Whistler compared to previous weeks. From Feb. 8 to Feb. 15, VCH identified 56 new cases of COVID-19 in Whistler and an additional six older cases were geographically identified as Whistler residents, for a total of 676 cases since Jan. 1, 2021.

COVID-19 transmission slowing in Whistler as of Feb. 8, 2021

Vancouver, BC- Based on epidemiological data, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is reporting decreased community COVID-19 transmission in Whistler compared to previous weeks. As of Feb. 8, VCH identified 43 new cases of COVID-19 in Whistler, and an additional 24 older cases with earlier symptom onset dates for a total of 614 cases since Jan. 1, 2021.

VCH advises Whistler residents to remain vigilant in their response to COVID-19

Vancouver, BC- Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) encourages all Whistler residents and potential visitors to sustain their ongoing efforts to remain safe and to prevent community transmission of COVID-19. Public Health continues to identify a higher than average number of individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 in this community.
